What should I bring to a yoga class?

A water bottle and your mat.

 

What should I wear to a yoga class?

Comfortable clothes, easy fit with lots of stretch. Layers are always a good idea.

 

When should I eat before a yoga class?

Ideally try not to eat a big meal two hours prior to your class, or a light meal an hour prior. Drinks lots of water before class.

 

Do I have to be flexible to practice yoga?

No. You become flexible as a result of doing yoga.

 

Does yoga help with lower back pain?

Yes it can. Yoga helps develop a stronger core taking tension away from the lower back muscles.

 

Can I still practice if I am pregnant?

Yes. Let your instructor know and she will guide you through some modifications.

 

Can I still practice if I have had a serious injury?

You always want to double check with your doctor. Also let your instructor know before class.

 

What if I have a medical condition such as high blood pressure?

Always double check with your doctor and let your instructor know. Not all postures are recommended depending on the medical condition.

 

Do you OM in class?

Yes. You don’t have to if you don’t feel comfortable or you don’t wish to.

 

Will there be any breathing techniques, pranayama?

Yes. Other than encouraging students to check in with their breath and queuing the breath to the postures there will also be several specific techniques we will practice.
